Natalie

Natalie McIntyre was the mother of my best friend in high school. And she was a fantastic second mom to me during those days. Elegant, witty and generous. Her daughter-in-law wrote a lovely piece about Natalie's recent death, which is posted on Women's Voices for Change. Natalie's death was as graceful as her life.

2 Things I Have Saved

Friends of Kevin

I installed a hummingbird feeder on the north side of the house. I chose a feeder recommended by a hummingbird expert who explained the brilliance of a perch on the feeder. The perch allows the little manic guys a chance to stop all that crazy flying and belly up to the sugar water bar. The best thing is that Kevin, I named all the hummingbirds Kevin, hangs out on his perch, drinking his special solution, allowing us to really check him out. The feeder is called Hummzinger and it comes in 2 sizes. It's design makes a lot of sense and Kevin(s) really like it.

Weekend Water Shed

Several weeks ago we had our plumber create an additional water line from our well by the house. Nancy commandeered the neighbor's backhoe and soon enough we had a 540' trench down to our garden. We set in the special pvc pipe, used a propane torch to work the connections and hooked up our very own garden hydrant. I spent the past 3 days building, painting and installing the work station at the hydrant site. A trip to Lowe's for lumber, an industrial bin to use as the "sink", some black paint and a couple of bags of pea gravel had me ready to build my ode to water.

Today's Color Palette

Everywhere I turn I see new flowers opening up. This morning 6 pink/orange poppies surprised me on the north side of the house. There are clumps of miniature daisies growing in the middle of the driveway and random patches of black-eyed Susans throughout the meadow.
