The Horn sounds off about design, color, art, absurdity, obscurity, good shopping, urban life, architecture, photography, ideas and happiness.

Victor Schrager at Blindspot
Two Beautiful things: Blindspot and Photographer Victor Schrager.
Seven Days and Seven Nights
Beautiful show. Hiroshi Sugimoto at Gagosian. The night gallery is so dark that a guard gently guides you around the corner...

See, cows can talk...
Hammertown Barn is a real salvation for me when I've been out in the field for too long up at the farm. Sometimes a girl just needs to go shopping! Fortunately I can hop off the tractor and be looking at lovely housewares in under five minutes thanks to Joan and her fantastic shop.
Not Anymore...
I took this photo in the summer before the economy collapsed. I noticed that this insane billboard is down, replaced with a mini-storage ad. How perfect.

Finally....
People all over the world are cheering our new President Elect. What a dramatic difference it will be to feel inspired by a political leader instead of demoralized and embarrassed. The Bush administration was so inhumane and consequently un-American that it created a global anti-wave of ill will and profound separation. It feels like we are rejoining the earth as joyous participants again. Cheers!

20 x 200
I bought this great photo from a very fun and art friendly site called 20x200. What a super fun way to find and buy art! This piece is by Don Hamerman.

Canine Halloween Costume
Ok, so this is excellent. Dogs are great because they will let you put this costume on them. My cats would have it shredded into a thousand bits.
Blog Returns From Swamp
I cannot remember where I found this amazing thing - when I do, I'll post a credit. I just love it. Sorry for being blog neglecter big time... Had to refuel for Fall.

The Zyrtec Sofa
Thanks A.M., for the title of this post. We all know that pet owners only have furniture because pets demand it. Craig's List post from those kindred spirits at cute overload.

Corn Dog
Animals just love to run into the corn! Hank poses mid-corn to show how it's done. Hint: If you too far into the corn... you have no clue where you are and can't find your way out...

The Garden
Things are really happening in the garden! In fact, maybe too many things. But it's so lovely! I have been a bit lax with Studio Horn - apps to my loyal followers - more action, more often...soon.

Natalie
Natalie McIntyre was the mother of my best friend in high school. And she was a fantastic second mom to me during those days. Elegant, witty and generous. Her daughter-in-law wrote a lovely piece about Natalie's recent death, which is posted on Women's Voices for Change. Natalie's death was as graceful as her life.

Today's Brice Marden
Feeling linear and curved... Thanks Brice.
Friends of Kevin
I installed a hummingbird feeder on the north side of the house. I chose a feeder recommended by a hummingbird expert who explained the brilliance of a perch on the feeder. The perch allows the little manic guys a chance to stop all that crazy flying and belly up to the sugar water bar. The best thing is that Kevin, I named all the hummingbirds Kevin, hangs out on his perch, drinking his special solution, allowing us to really check him out. The feeder is called Hummzinger and it comes in 2 sizes. It's design makes a lot of sense and Kevin(s) really like it.

Weekend Water Shed
Several weeks ago we had our plumber create an additional water line from our well by the house. Nancy commandeered the neighbor's backhoe and soon enough we had a 540' trench down to our garden. We set in the special pvc pipe, used a propane torch to work the connections and hooked up our very own garden hydrant. I spent the past 3 days building, painting and installing the work station at the hydrant site. A trip to Lowe's for lumber, an industrial bin to use as the "sink", some black paint and a couple of bags of pea gravel had me ready to build my ode to water.

Today's Color Palette
Everywhere I turn I see new flowers opening up. This morning 6 pink/orange poppies surprised me on the north side of the house. There are clumps of miniature daisies growing in the middle of the driveway and random patches of black-eyed Susans throughout the meadow.
Something to Crow About
I have been studying chickens; how to raise them for egg laying and entertainment. I am excited by the prospect of having small flock. These fine specimens came from Bilbliodyssey.
